New York. US Supreme Court Justice Ruth Beder Ginsburg, known for her work on women’s rights, died at the age of 87. He died of pancreatic cancer on Friday night.
His death before the presidential elections due on November 3 has created a confrontational situation. There may be a conflict regarding the new appointment to the post vacated by his death.
Ginsburg, the most senior justice and the second woman to be appointed to the Supreme Court as a justice, served there for 27 years. She was a leading justice advocating gender equality.
She was appointed by the then President Bill Clinton in 1993 and over the years she became the most senior member of the Liberal wing of the court.
Chief Justice John Roberts said in a statement on Friday night, “Our country has lost a jurist of historic stature. We deeply mourn his departure. We believe that generations to come will remember Ruth Beder Ginsburg.” ”
He was informed of Ginsburg’s death when President Donald Trump was holding an election rally in Minnesota.
In his statement, he said, “His well-known opinions on the legal equality of women and the disabled, including his opinions on various issues, have inspired all generations of Americans and legal minds.”
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton tweeted, “Justice Ginsburg paved the way for many women, including me. There will be no one like her. Thank you RBG.”
President Donald Trump’s son Eric Trump said Ginsberg was “a great woman with remarkable work ethic.”
