A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking contempt proceedings against journalist Rajdeep Sardesai for criticizing the court’s decision in the Prashant Bhushan case and other tweets related to the judiciary. Petitioner Aastha Khurana has said through Advocate on Record Om Prakash Parihar that Sardesai’s statement is not only a cheap publicity stunt, but a deliberate spread of hatred as an anti-India campaign to protest against the apex court in every way Is an attempt made.
The petition states that this contemporary tweet is a major question on the sovereign function of the Supreme Court and the nature of their adherence to the Constitution.
The petitioner started the contempt proceedings against Rajdeep Sardesai for Attorney General K.K. K. The consent of Venugopal is also sought.
The petitioner cited a tweet by Sardesai where he criticized the penalty of one rupee imposed on Bhushan by the court. Apart from this, another tweet was also cited in which Sardesai said that the top court cannot remove a lawyer from practice.
It has been argued that it is clear that Sardesai has insulted the verdict of the apex court.
The petitioner urged Sardesai to pass an order to initiate contempt proceedings against him for deliberately insulting the order of the apex court, referring to him as an accustomer in such an act.
