Kerala . An Air India Express plane coming from Dubai to Kerala crashed during landing at Kozhikode Airport. The plane slipped off the runway and fell into a 35-foot deep ravine and broke into two pieces. At least 17 people, including pilot DV Sathe, have died in this accident.
The plane crash occurred at 7.41 pm on Friday evening.
According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, Air India Express AXB 1344 was a B737 aircraft carrying 190 people, including crew members. The aircraft landed on runway 10 amid heavy visibility at 2,000 meters, but slipped into the valley and broke into two.
About 40 ambulances have reached the accident site and passengers are being taken to various hospitals in Kozhikode and Malappuram.
However, the Kerala administration has said that 184 people were on board the aircraft, which included 128 men, 46 women and 10 children. The other five people who had taken tickets for this flight did not board the plane.
An eyewitness said that he reached the spot after hearing the sound of the accident.
The local resident said, “I live about 20 kilometers from the airport boundary and after hearing the loud noise of the accident, some people reached there. We saw the cockpit of the plane coming out of the boundary wall.”
He said, “We were some people and we started knocking at the airport gate, but the CISF personnel did not open the gate. We saw a fire engine and an ambulance arriving and then the CISF personnel asked for help, then we Went in. We rescued the first children and also helped many others. ”
State Health Minister K.K. Shailaja said the condition of a mother and child was stated to be critical.
Minister of State for External Affairs V. Muralitharan said that the Karipur airport is known as a table top airport and that is why the plane fell into the valley. Muralitharan is a resident of this state.
Muralitharan said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spoken to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan about the accident. Table top airport is not suitable for the rainy season. Usually, planes are not allowed to land at table top airports during heavy rains. Jaati. All these things will come up in DGCA investigation. ”
Local MLA TV Ibrahim was in a local hospital near the airport and carried a child in his arms, whose parents were missing. He asked TV channels to broadcast pictures of this child, so that the relatives of the child could come to know.
According to the information received here, the passengers sitting in the front row have been seriously injured.
