Unnao. Police used batons to protest against objectionable songs during a phaag procession that started from Ganj Moradabad town of Bangarmau. The angry mob pelted stones after many people got injured.
Three policemen including Bangarmau Kotwal were injured in the stone pelting. Additional SP Premchand and SDM Namrata Singh reached the spot and took stock of the situation. Many have been taken into custody.
Police lathicharged
The traditional phaag procession that starts from Mohalla Garhi of Ganj Moradabad town was returning from its designated place on Friday afternoon after reaching its destination like every year. When the police stopped the use of objectionable words during the phaag song at 3:45 pm, the coordination between the police and the Horiyars got spoiled near Mohalla Jogiana. Seeing the situation getting worse, the police lathicharged the phaag procession.
People pelted stones at the police
Some people from the angry crowd pelted stones at the police. Due to which the police fiercely lathicharged the phaag procession. During this, many people were also injured. The police also brutally lathicharged the people sitting outside the house. Many people were injured. Heads of three four people were broken.
At the same time, a middle-aged man involved in the procession remained unconscious on the spot for a long time. Three policemen including Bangarmau Kotwal Avnish Singh were injured due to stone pelting. During the uproar, Circle Officer Arvind Chaurasia, Tehsildar Ramashra, Naib Tehsildar Deepak Gautam etc. were present.
Large number of police force deployed
After the incident, a large number of police force has been deployed in the city. People are angry with the police action. Let us tell you that the objectionable songs sung by the Horiyars during this phaag procession have been opposed for a long time.
For years, there has been a demand to ban the singing of this traditional objectionable song. In the peace committee meeting, the police had appealed to the people not to sing objectionable songs. Even after this, an attempt was made to spoil the atmosphere by singing objectionable songs.
It has come to light that the police stopped them and lathi-charged them when the Faguharas protested. CO Arvind Chaurasia said that lathis were not used. The objectionable song was stopped, due to which people got angry and pelted stones at the police. Some people have been detained. Action will be taken by filing a case.
