Meerut. STF (Special Task Force) seized a huge cache of cartridges from Greater Pallavpuram on Delhi Highway. This consignment was being carried by international smuggler Rashid Ali. The consignment of cartridges came from Rana Institute of Shooting Sports, Dehradun. Rashid Ali said that this range belongs to Rana Brothers. Dronacharya Award winner Subhash Rana, brother of Padma Shri awardee shooter Jashpal Rana, had sent the supply of cartridges to Meerut. These cartridges are smuggled from Italy for shooting players. STF has also made Subhash Rana and his partner Saksham Malik accused on the statements of Rashid Ali. STF recovered 1975 cartridges STF ASP Brijesh Singh said that information was received from the informer that illegal weapons and cartridges are being supplied on a large scale in West UP. On the information of the informer, the STF team started checking in Greater Pallavpuram on Delhi Highway. At 4.30 pm, Rashid Ali, son of Shamshad Ali, resident of village Jola, police station Budhana, Muzaffarnagar, was stopped in a Swift. The STF team recovered 1975 cartridges of 12 bore Made in Italy from inside the car.
Rashid told during interrogation that he was bringing this consignment of cartridges from Rana Institute of Shooting Sports (RISS) in Dehradun to Meerut. Range owner Dronacharya Award-winning shooter Subhash Rana and his partner Saksham Malik had sent the consignment of cartridges to Meerut. He had said that after reaching Begumpul in Meerut, he would tell on the phone where the cartridges have to be sent.
Subhash Rana and Saksham Malik also made accused
Rashid Ali told that cartridges are ordered in the shooting range on the license of shooting players. These cartridges were also being smuggled by ordering them from Italy. Subhash Rana, brother of Padma Shri-winning shooter Jashpal Rana, and his partner Saksham Malik have an important role in the smuggling. STF has also made Subhash Rana and Saksham Malik accused in the case. ASP said that cartridges are being imported from abroad and smuggled to many states of the country. A lot of information will be available only after the arrest of Subhash Rana and Saksham Malik. A case has been registered against Rashid in Pallavapuram police station. 1975 cartridges and a car have been recovered from his possession.
