Jasprit Bumrah is the main fast bowler of Team India. His absence means the team is in trouble. Bumrah suffered a back injury in the last Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy played in Sydney, after which he went for a scan. Since then, there was a threat looming over Bumrah. Now the report has revealed that Bumrah may miss the group stage matches of the Champions Trophy 2025 to be played in February-March.
There was a question mark on Bumrah’s availability for the Champions Trophy, but perhaps now the selectors have got the answer. A report published in the Indian Express said that Bumrah may be fit by the first week of March, which simply means that he will miss the group stage matches in the Champions Trophy.
Bumrah has swelling on his back, due to which it is expected that he will go to the National Cricket Academy for recovery. After spending time at the NCA, the Indian bowler will also need a fitness certificate and will also have to play one or two practice matches. The report quoted a source as saying, “He (Bumrah) will go to NCA for rehab. The initial report said that he does not have a fracture but there is swelling on the back. Therefore, NCA will monitor his recovery and he will stay there for two weeks. But even after this, he will have to play one or two matches, even if they are practice matches to check his match fitness.”
Mohammad Shami returns
While the news of Jasprit Bumrah being out has come to the fore, fast bowler Mohammed Shami has returned to Team India. On Friday (January 11), Team India was announced by BCCI for the England T20 series. Shami’s name was also included in the team. Shami has returned to Team India after about 14 months.
