Ghazipur. Six people including MP Afzal Ansari were acquitted on Saturday in the case of breaking into SDM Muhammadabad’s office with a crowd of thousands during SP’s state bandh program.
This decision was pronounced by the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate MP-MLA Swapan Anand. After the court’s decision, there was a wave of happiness among the MP’s supporters. The verdict came after 23 years of trial in the case. The prosecution could not prove the allegations against the six people including Afzal Ansari.
This was the whole case
On August 9, 2001, during SP’s state bandh program, SP leaders protested. It was alleged that the then MLA of Muhammadabad from SP and current MP Afzal Ansari reached the tehsil with a procession from the Mandi Committee along with four thousand people.
They reached Muhammadabad SDM’s office and raised slogans. The officials tried to stop them, but the protesters entered the SDM office and vandalized it while creating a ruckus. In this case, a case was registered against a total of nine people including Afzal Ansari. During the investigation, the names of three people were removed, while the chargesheet was sent to the court against the then MLA Afzal Ansari, supporters Vikrama Yadav, Gopal Rai, Shambhu Singh Yadav, Block Pramukh Luttar Rai alias Sharda Nand Rai and Ziauddin Khan.
The hearing began in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Swapan Anand. 13 witnesses recorded their statements in the court. All were acquitted on Saturday as the prosecution could not prove the charges. Advocates Vijay Shankar Pandey and Sunil Dutt Tripathi pleaded on behalf of MP Afzal Ansari.
Two sentenced to 10 years in rape case, real brothers acquitted
The court of Special Judge POCSO I Rakesh Kumar Saptam on Saturday sentenced two to 10 years in the case of rape of a minor girl. Along with this, a fine of Rs 30,000 each was imposed. An order has been given to give 75 percent of the fine amount to the victim. At the same time, the court acquitted two real brothers giving them the benefit of doubt.
According to the prosecution, a village resident of Revatipur police station lodged a complaint in the police station alleging that on the night of August 14, 2016, his minor sister was lured and kidnapped by Anil Yadav and Rajesh Yadav of the village and raped. The police registered a case and recovered the girl after a few days. When the victim’s statement was recorded during the investigation, the names of Rajesh Yadav, Tunnu and his brother Buttan Yadav of the village also came to light.
After arresting the four accused and sending them to jail, the police sent the chargesheet to the court within three months. During the trial, special public prosecutor Ravikant Pandey presented seven witnesses. On Saturday, after hearing arguments from both sides, the court acquitted Tunnu Yadav and Buttan Yadav, giving them the benefit of doubt, while Anil Yadav and Rajesh Yadav were found guilty and sentenced.
