Before the third and final match of the three-match Test series being played against India, New Zealand suffered a major setback in the form of veteran batsman Kane Williamson. Like the first and second Tests, Williamson will not be able to be a part of New Zealand in the third Test as well. Williamson is undergoing rehab for a groin injury.
The third Test between India and New Zealand will be played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai from Friday, November 01. Giving information from the New Zealand Cricket Board, it was told that Williamson will also not take part in the third Test against India in Mumbai. After missing the Test series against India, Williamson is expected to return in the Test series against England.
A three-match Test series is to be played between New Zealand and England from November 28. In the information given by the board, it was told that taking a cautious approach, it was decided that Williamson will not play in the Mumbai Test.
New Zealand head coach Gary Stead said that Williamson made good progress, but a cautious approach will give him time to be fully fit for the Test series against England. Gary Stead said, “Kane is constantly showing good signs, but he is not ready to join us yet. Things are looking good. We believe that the best step for him is to stay in New Zealand and focus on the last part of his rehab, which will be good for him to go to England.” The coach further said, “There is still a month left in the England series, so adopting a cautious approach will make it clear that he is ready for the first Test to be played in Christchurch.”
