New Delhi. India’s fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah on Wednesday, October 2, surpassed Ravichandran Ashwin to become the world’s number-1 Test bowler. Bumrah has reached the first position in the rankings with his excellent performance in the 2-match Test series against Bangladesh. He became the first Indian fast bowler to achieve the first position in the Test rankings.
Jasprit Bumrah has become the first Indian fast bowler to become the number-1 Test bowler. Before Bumrah, Kapil Dev was the highest ranked Indian fast bowler in the Test bowlers’ table. The former Indian captain was second in the ICC Test rankings between December 1979 and February 1980.
R Ashwin has also performed well
R Ashwin also performed brilliantly in bowling against Bangladesh. The spinner took 11 wickets in the 2-match series against Bangladesh and also scored a century. Ashwin is just one point behind Bumrah in the Test bowlers’ list and is expected to give tough competition to the fast bowler in the coming months.
Bumrah has taken the most wickets this year
India is scheduled to tour Australia for the home series against New Zealand and then the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. Bumrah is the highest wicket-taker in Tests this year. Since the start of 2024, Bumrah has taken 38 wickets at a strike-rate of 14.42.
