The National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL,USA) organized its annual Legislative Summit in Louisville, Kentucky, from August 5-7, 2024. This event is the largest bipartisan gathering of state legislators in the United States, featuring a wide array of educational sessions on topics such as artificial intelligence, transportation, workforce development, public-private partnerships and elections.
The summit attracted over 4,500 attendees, including lawmakers, legislative staff, and public policy professionals from across the 20 countries . Around 37 legislators from different states of India participated, including Dhirendra Singh, MLA from Jewar, Dr. Surabhi, MLA from Kaimganj and Mr. Sanjay Sharma, MLA from Anupshahr of Uttar Pradesh were also present.
The 2024 NCSL Legislative Summit in Louisville featured several key sessions, including innovative strategies to enhance educational outcomes and prepare students for future challenges and highlighted new approaches to support veterans’ needs and improve their quality of life.
MLA Dhirendra Singh told, “These sessions provided valuable insights and fostered discussions on critical issues facing state legislators today to learn from experts and each other about solutions to pressing state issues.
MLA Jewar further told ,” The 2024 NCSL Legislative Summit also focused on the ethical and practical implications of artificial intelligence (AI) in legislative processes. The session emphasized the importance of developing AI systems that are fair, transparent, and accountable. Legislators discussed the need for ethical guidelines to prevent biases and ensure that AI applications do not discriminate against any group. Participants explored various regulatory approaches to manage AI use in government. This included discussions on creating standards for AI deployment, ensuring data privacy, and protecting citizens’ rights.The session highlighted practical uses of AI in legislative work, such as automating routine tasks, enhancing data analysis, and improving decision-making processes. Examples included AI tools for drafting legislation, analyzing public opinion, and managing constituent servicing. This session aimed to equip legislators with the knowledge and tools needed to effectively manage and regulate AI, ensuring that its use benefits society while mitigating potential risks.”
