A major accident took place at the Yamuna Expressway interchange near Khandauli police station in Agra. Here eight children and a woman started drowning in a pond near the expressway interchange. All were taken out with the help of divers and sent to the hospital. According to the information, 4 children including the woman were saved while four girls died a painful death.
According to the information received from the police, just 4 to 5 days ago, people of Kanpur countryside had set up their camp on empty land near a pond of a water harvesting plant built near the Yamuna Expressway interchange. There are many trees around the pond but the water in it had increased a lot due to the rain of the last two days. A woman from the family of the people who were staying here had come here to collect wood, she was accompanied by 8 girls.
Woman’s foot slipped
Suddenly the woman’s foot slipped and she fell into the pond. To save her, the girls also got into the pond and started drowning in it due to the deep water. The girls who died in the accident have been identified as Hardil, Neha, Anuradha and Shalini. There was no barricading for safety in the rain water harvesting pond built by Yamuna Expressway Authority. Hearing everyone’s screams, police, home guards and public gathered there. Home guard Mukesh Chauhan and two of the people who reached there immediately jumped into the pond and brought out the woman and 4 children safely but the condition of 4 girls was very critical, one of whom died there itself while the rest of the children were immediately sent to S.N. Medical College but the other three girls also died there.
Girls jumped into the water to save the woman
Inspector Rakesh Chauhan, police in-charge of Khandauli police station, said that the incident happened around 10.30 in the morning when he got the news that a woman and 8 girls were drowning in the pond built by the authority for water harvesting near Yamuna Expressway Khandauli interchange. He immediately reached the spot for rescue. Everyone together immediately pulled them out of the pond. Out of which one woman and four girls were saved but the condition of four girls was very bad and they were sent to the hospital where they died. The age of the four girls who died by drowning in the pond is between 11 and 12 years.
