The number of deaths is increasing due to the scorching heat, while in Kanpur district, the postmortem house has become full due to 60 bodies including unclaimed ones. The situation is such that there is no space left to keep the bodies in the postmortem house. The unclaimed bodies kept since the past few days have started stinking. Today, the people who came to get the bodies postmortemed sat on the divider due to the stink and seeing the situation, the administration has demanded additional space and doctors.
Bodies of beggars and drug addicts could not be identified
Most of the bodies that reached the postmortem house within three days were of beggars and drug addicts. Where unclaimed bodies kept reaching the postmortem till late evening today. The main reason for this is said to be the scorching heat. The reason for both the deaths is not clear officially. These deaths are not known even from the postmortem.
Doctor fell ill
Where while doing the postmortem today, Dr. Ashwini Baghmare fainted and fell on the ground. The fellow doctor standing there and the staff of the postmortem house poured cold water on him, then he regained consciousness. The condition of Dr. Navneet Chaudhary, in-charge of the postmortem house, also deteriorated while doing the postmortem. Due to lack of arrangements, the DM sent CMO and ADM and a team of five doctors has been formed to do the postmortem of the bodies.
58 bodies are kept in the postmortem, out of which 45 are unclaimed
58 bodies are kept in the postmortem today on Saturday. Which are kept one above the other. In which 45 are unclaimed bodies. Even till evening, unclaimed bodies have been brought in the city. Due to which the number is increasing. At the same time, people who came to get the postmortem of the dead body told that the bodies are kept one above the other. Today’s bodies have been kept on top of the old ones. Due to which blood is flowing. There is a foul smell due to bleeding and rotting of the dead body. It has become difficult to stand in the postmortem.
48 to 72 hours waiting for unclaimed bodies
The ADM told that 48 to 72 hours are waited for unclaimed bodies. Someone from their family should come home. If they do not come, then their last rites are performed. Temporary arrangements are being made for the bodies. Arrangements for water are also being made. People are sitting on the dividers due to the foul smell during postmortem. He also said that due to the heat, they are sitting in the open. There is sufficient seating arrangement. Further arrangements are being made.
CMO Alok Ranjan said that arrangements are being made to keep the bodies. The number of bodies has increased a lot in 24 hours. Arrangements for temporary rooms are being made to keep the bodies. He also said that where the bodies are being kept, AC will also be installed there. Due to which there will be no foul smell. 35 bodies have arrived in 24 hours. Which include unidentified as well as identified ones. There will be 33 bodies till now and 32 are kept there. There is a provision of four deep freezers. Further arrangements are being made. Doctors are being demanded so that the situation can be controlled.
