Rampur. Samajwadi Party’s National General Secretary Azam Khan has been convicted by MP-MLA Special Court (Session Trial) on Wednesday in Dungarpur case. The court did not pronounce the sentence on Azam Khan and Barkat Ali Thekedar on Wednesday, but reserved the verdict.
Now the verdict on the sentence will be pronounced on Thursday. The court has convicted Azam Khan under sections 452, 392, 504, 506 and 120B, while acquitting him in section 307. Apart from this, Barkat Ali Thekedar has been convicted under sections 452, 392, 504 and 506, while acquitting him in sections 447, 307 and 411. Azam Khan is in Sitapur jail, he appeared in court through video conference from the jail itself.
In 2016, during the SP government, Aasra houses were built by demolishing the houses of people living in Dungarpur colony. In the year 2019, 12 homeless people lodged separate FIRs in Ganj Kotwali. The allegation was that during the SP government, at the behest of Azam Khan, the police and SP workers forcibly vacated their houses. They looted their belongings and demolished the houses. Azam Khan was not named in these cases earlier.
On the basis of the arrest of other accused and their statements, the police had also made him an accused. Earlier, the verdict has been given in eight cases against Azam Khan. He has been convicted in five, while he has been acquitted in three. In one case, he was sentenced to seven years. In which he has got bail from the High Court. But, due to conviction in another case, he could not be released. 84 cases against Azam are still pending.
Fired to kill
The decision on the file is to come on Wednesday. According to Assistant District Government Advocate Seema Rana, the decision may come after lunch. This case was filed by Abrar Hussain. He said that on 6 December 2016 at 8 am, former CO City Ale Hasan Khan, Inspector Feroz Khan, Barkat Ali Contractor, C&DS Engineer Parvez Alam entered the house. They fired at him with a gun with the intention of killing him. He escaped to save his life. After this, jewellery, cash etc. were looted from his house. His house was demolished using a bulldozer.
In this case, the files of Inspector Feroz Khan and Engineer Parvez Alam were separated, while the case of former CO Ale Hasan Khan has been stayed by the High Court. In such a situation, the decision will be taken only on the files of Azam Khan and Barkat Ali Contractor. Both of them have been sentenced in a case of Dungarpur incident on 18 March. Azam Khan was sentenced to seven years imprisonment and Barkat Ali Contractor to five years imprisonment.
