Gorakhpur. The administration of Deendayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University has taken seriously the allegation of sexual harassment leveled by a student against an assistant professor. The investigation has been handed over to the internal complaints committee of the university. To ensure a fair investigation, the Assistant Professor has been suspended until further orders.
Entry into the university campus has also been restricted until the investigation is completed. The teacher has been attached to the Registrar’s Office for the period of suspension. A graduate student had accused Dr. Jitendra Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Defense Studies, of sexual harassment. For action regarding this, she had lodged a complaint from the university administration to the Women’s Commission. Letters were also written to the Governor and Principal Secretary.

In the complaint letter, the student had said that the assistant professor had been harassing her for two years. Last year, on the night of 21st December, he called under the influence of alcohol and spoke obscenely, audio proof of which is also available. The student had even warned of suicide if she did not get justice.
Student organizations are protesting
When the matter came to light, different student organizations of the university were protesting for the last two days and demanding action against the accused. On Friday also, demonstrations were held from the university gate to the Vice Chancellor’s office. Met the Vice Chancellor and submitted a memorandum for action. As the pressure increased, the university administration took action of suspension in the afternoon.
