A man and his son have been arrested by the police for allegedly raping and killing the daughter-in-law for dowry in Bairia police station area of Ballia district of Uttar Pradesh. Police Officer (CO) Mohammad Usman said on Friday, quoting the case lodged by the family members, that on June 25, a 22-year-old married woman was not satisfied with the demand of fifty thousand rupees in dowry and a gold chain in a village under Bairia police station area. Due to this, her father-in-law Shankar Dayal Choubey and husband Anand Choubey sprinkled kerosene on her body and set her on fire.
Married woman died on July 3
The jurisdictional police officer said that in this case, a case has been registered in Bairia police station on the Tahrir of Kamal, the brother of the married woman, under relevant sections including attempt to murder and dowry harassment. The seriously burnt married woman was admitted to the hospital. He told that the married woman gave a pre-death statement to the magistrate in the hospital that on June 25, her father-in-law Shankar Dayal Choubey raped her and then her father-in-law and husband Anand Choubey set her on fire by sprinkling kerosene on her body. The married woman died on July 3.
Police arrested the accused
The CO said that on the basis of the statement of the married woman, sections 304B (dowry death) and 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code were added to the case. He told that the police arrested the accused Shankar Dayal Choubey and Anand Choubey on Thursday. The married woman was a resident of a village in Bairia police station area and she had got married only two years back.
