Lucknow. Expired medicines worth Rs 16.40 crore were found when Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak raided the warehouse of UP Medical Supplies Corporation Limited in the capital on Friday. In this, heart medicine telmisartan, eye drops, glucose bottles and corona medicines were found lying like garbage. Seeing the dust and dirt in the warehouse where medicines are kept for the patients, the Deputy Chief Minister got furious.
He said that the medicines purchased for the patients are lying here like a pile of garbage. He directed the formation of a committee to investigate the matter immediately and directed the officers to submit a preliminary report of the matter within three days.
Medicines are sent by the UP Medical Supplies Corporation Limited to distribute free medicines to the patients in hospitals across the state. Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak reprimanded the officers and personnel present on the spot and said that why these medicines were not sent to the hospitals. If the medicines were getting expired then why were they not returned to the companies as per the agreement. He got videographed of the action taken during the inspection. Collected all the evidences present on the spot and seized the papers. Health Department Secretary Pranjal Yadav was also present with him on the spot.
Medicines available in the godown will be audited: Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak directed to conduct an audit of the medicines available in the godown. The way they found the packets of medicines scattered and medicines etc. found in disarray, it is feared that the amount of medicines being shown to be bought by the corporation, has also been played in it. For now, everything will come out in the audit report.
Medicines that came for quality check are also gathering dust: Deputy Chief Minister’s eyes fell on a big packet kept between the boxes of medicines. He asked what is this? The staff told that the parcel is there. It came via post to the unit built up in the warehouse to do quality checks. He also expressed his displeasure over the fact that if it will eat dust in the warehouse, then what medicines will be tested. The personnel told that the lock was closed in the quality checking department, so the parcel was kept here.
Why the mask was used on the open packet of medicine: How careless are the employees of the Health Department teaching people the lesson of protecting them from infection, it also came to the fore during the checking of the Deputy Chief Minister. A mask used by an employee was placed on the opened packet of medicines. The Deputy Chief Minister said that will you play with people’s lives? If you have an infection somewhere, how many will reach through the medicine. The employee kept listening to the scolding with his head bowed.
