The Supreme Court on Tuesday stayed the Allahabad High Court order issuing non-bailable warrants against a senior IAS officer and chief executive officer of Noida in a contempt case related to a land acquisition case.
A bench of Chief Justice NV Ramana and Justices Krishna Murari and Hima Kohli agreed to hear the plea of Uttar Pradesh officer Ritu Maheshwari against the High Court order.
Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for the woman IAS officer, said that this is a big case where a woman appeared in the Allahabad High Court, her lawyer was present and she asked for a pass over. The High Court had issued an order asking him to appear and be kept in custody. Staying the order, the bench has listed the matter for hearing on Wednesday.
Let us tell you that earlier the Supreme Court had refused to give relief to Ritu Maheshwari on Monday, reprimanding her in the non-bailable warrant case. The High Court had ordered him to be arrested and produced in the court on May 13. After this, Ritu Maheshwari reached the Supreme Court against the decision.
The Supreme Court had said yesterday that if you do not follow the order of the High Court, then you will have to face the consequences. The bench had said that you are an IAS officer. You know the rules. Every other day some officers come to the court for directions even in serious cases.
