ICC Women’s World Cup 2022: In the upcoming Women’s World Cup 2022, India won their last warm-up match by 81 runs over West Indies. Opener Smriti Mandhana became the hero of the victory of the Indian women’s team. He played an innings of 66 runs in 67 balls to take India to 258 runs in the stipulated 50 overs. In reply, the Windies team could only score 177 runs. India had earlier defeated South Africa by two runs in their last warm-up match after a close collision. India winning both the warm-up matches after their 1-4 loss against New Zealand is a big positive for Mithali Raj & Co.
India’s team had traveled to the final in the last Women’s World Cup held in the year 2017. However, the team had to face defeat in the title match. Talking about today’s match, opener Shefali Verma could not even open her account. After this Deepti Sharma and Mandhana came to the crease and shared 117 runs for the second wicket. Mandhana made 66 runs in 67 balls with the help of seven fours. Cheri Un Fraser took his catch on his own ball.
Deepti scored 51 runs in 64 balls which included only one four. Captain Mithali Raj contributed 30 runs in 42 balls while Yastika Bhatia scored 42 runs in 53 balls .
West Indies got off to a poor start and lost four wickets for 53 runs . Wicketkeeper Shemaine Campbell made 63 off 81 balls while Haley Mathews contributed 44 off 61 balls. Apart from these two, no batsman could survive.
For India, Pooja Vastrakar took three wickets for 21 runs in seven overs while Meghna Singh and Deepti got two wickets each. Jhulan Goswami conceded just 14 runs in eight overs.
