Noida. Using the photo and name of the MD of Paschimchal Vidyut Nigam, the cyber fraudsters cheated the Superintendent Engineer of Ghaziabad of Rs. By hacking MD’s mobile, the thugs sent a message to the victim on WhatsApp. After falling prey to the hoax, the engineer bought gift vouchers worth Rs.1.25 lakh and became a victim of fraud.
In the complaint given to Sector-20 Kotwali police, Munendra Kumar told that he is an engineer in Electricity Corporation in Ghaziabad. He told that on Tuesday, he got a message on WhatsApp number from the mobile number with the photo of Arvind M Bangari, MD of Paschimchal Vidyut Nigam. The person sending the message asked Munendra to buy and send a gift voucher.
Due to the MD’s DP on the WhatsApp number, Munendra got caught and bought a voucher of about 1.25 lakh rupees through his daughter and sent the gift voucher to the MD. When Gift Boucher reached the MD, he told that he had never ordered for the voucher. After this the MD called to Munendra and informed about the fraud with him. After coming to know about the fraud, the victim reached Kotwali and lodged a complaint regarding the matter. Based on the complaint, the police is investigating the matter.
1.80 lakh fraud in the name of loan
In another case, a fraud of one lakh 80 thousand rupees has been done in the name of getting a loan with a youth resident of Face One Kotwali area. In the complaint given to the police, Sachin Tiwari, a resident of Sector 10, said that he contacted a person after seeing an advertisement for loan on the internet media. On the pretext of loan, the accused took bank related information and withdrew money from the account.
