Lucknow. Opposition parties are welcoming the Supreme Court’s order to cancel the recovery from CAA agitators before the third phase of the assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh. Leaders of opposition parties say that the public will give an answer to the Yogi government of the state in the elections.
Congress has welcomed the order of the Supreme Court to cancel the order of recovery from social workers and agitators involved in the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC) movement, calling it a slap on the cheek of the Yogi government.
Naseemuddin Siddiqui, chairman of the Congress’s media and communication department, said that action should also be taken against the Yogi government and officials on this issue who physically and mentally tortured the agitators who exercised democratic rights. He said that the Yogi government is completely dictatorial, but the Supreme Court has told that the country will run by the constitution and law.
The Yogi government had issued recovery notices against hundreds of people without using any judicial process. At that time also the Congress party strongly opposed it. The order of the Supreme Court is like a seal on the stand of the Congress party. This has also proved that the Yogi government has no faith in democracy.
Congress candidate from Lucknow Central seat and the face of the anti-CAA movement, Sadaf Jafar said that she has full faith in the judiciary. A recovery notice of Rs 64 lakh was issued against her while she was exercising her fundamental right to protest an unconstitutional law democratically. He said that after his arrest in this agitation, he was kicked in the stomach by a senior police officer and he was severely tortured in custody.
A barbaric attitude was adopted with all the other agitators who were arrested along with him. His face was made posters and put up at the intersections. The agitators have got justice after fighting a long legal battle. The Supreme Court’s decision is a victory for all of them. By removing the Yogi government in this election, the public will answer for its dictatorial attitude.
