Lucknow. Voting for the first phase of Uttar Pradesh Assembly Election 2022 was completed on Thursday, February 10 at 6 pm. In the first phase of this election to be held in seven phases, voting was held for 58 seats in 11 districts of western Uttar Pradesh and Braj region amid tight security arrangements. A total of 60.17 per cent voter turnout was recorded in the first phase of UP assembly elections in 58 seats in 11 districts held on Thursday. A total of 63.47 percent voter turnout was recorded in these seats in the 2017 elections. This time around 3.3 percent voter turnout was less than the last election. The highest voting percentage of 69.42 percent was in Shamli district. Barring sporadic complaints, polling ended peacefully. Nine out of 11 districts, Shamli, Muzaffarnagar, Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Baghpat, Aligarh, Agra and Mathura have passed in the first division. More than 60 percent voting has taken place here. The lowest 54.77 percent voting took place in Ghaziabad and 56.73 percent in Gautam Buddha Nagar. Voters have sealed the fate of 623 candidates, including 73 women candidates, in EVMs. Of these, 111 candidates belong to the Scheduled Castes. There are 151 candidates who have criminal background.

Similarly, in Muzaffarnagar district, 65.34 percent, Meerut 60.91, Baghpat 61.35, Hapur 60.50, Gautam Budh Nagar 56.73, Bulandshahr 60.50, Aligarh 60.49, Mathura 63.28 and Agra 60.33 percent polling.
Gradually increasing vote percentage: The Election Commission had made elaborate security arrangements for fearless and fair voting. The first phase of polling began at 7 am amid tight security arrangements. In the first two hours, around 8 per cent voter turnout was recorded. After this the voting picked up speed and till 1 pm, 35 per cent voter turnout was recorded. Voting went on till 6 pm. Voting continued till 6 pm due to long queues at polling booths in many districts. Vidhan Sabha wise maximum 75.12 percent voting has taken place in Kairana. The lowest 45 percent votes were cast in Sahibabad.
43420 voters cast their votes by postal ballot: In the first phase 43420 voters exercised their franchise through postal ballot. Postal ballots were given to a total of 58924 voters of four categories of voters above 80 years of age, Divyangjan, essential services and polling personnel. Out of these only 43420 voters cast their votes. Apart from this, postal ballots have also been sent electronically to 79922 service voters.
Webcasting of 11628 Polling Stations: Live webcasting of 11628 Polling Stations was done in the first phase. These polling booths were monitored by the District Election Officer, Chief Electoral Officer and Election Commission of India from all three levels through webcasting.
Two percent replaced EVMs: In the election, about two percent of EVMs malfunctioned. During the morning drill, 1.39 percent of the ballot units, 0.98 percent of the control units and 1.44 percent of VVPATs were replaced due to malfunction. After this, 0.62 percent of the ballots and the same number of control units were changed during the voting. Similarly VVPATs were also changed by 1.44 per cent.
