Johannesburg. Indian team head coach Rahul Dravid has come out in support of champion batsman and Test captain Virat Kohli, saying he has been exceptional despite all the noise about him. There is a tussle between Kohli and BCCI regarding limited overs captaincy.
Kohli had refuted BCCI President Sourav Ganguly’s statement before leaving for South Africa, saying that he was never asked to reconsider leaving the captaincy of the T20 team. Kohli relinquished T20 captaincy and was dropped from ODI captaincy. Since then Kohli has not interacted with the media. Asked why he has not yet interacted with the media on this tour, Dravid said, “There is no specific reason for this. I don’t take a call on it, but I have been told that if he will speak on the eve of his 100th Test, then you can ask him all the questions.
Kohli’s 100th Test will be the third and last Test of this series, which will be played in Cape Town from January 11. Recently, chief selector Chetan Sharma denied Kohli’s statement, saying that he was requested to withhold the decision till the end of the T20 World Cup. Kohli’s form as a batsman is also an issue, who has not been able to convert good starts in the last two years into big innings. Dravid said, ‘After the start of the match, the coach cannot do much. Results cannot be controlled. We are focusing on good preparation so that the team remains in good form. The second match of the three-match Test series between India and South Africa will be played in Johannesburg from Monday.
