New Delhi. Former head coach of the Indian cricket team Ravi Shastri has shared his thoughts on Rohit Sharma’s captaincy. Ravi Shastri, who has been working with Rohit for the last few years, said that the opener is not ‘overwhelmed’ by the situation and always does what is best for the team. Rohit Sharma was appointed India’s full-time limited overs captain by the BCCI on Wednesday
The right-handed batsman will replace Virat Kohli in the three-match ODI series in South Africa in January next year. On the other hand, even before hitman Rohit Sharma was appointed captain of limited overs, Ravi Shastri told The Week, “Rohit is not overwhelmed, he always does what is best for the team. Marshall does, as they say in football. ”
Rohit Sharma, the most successful captain of IPL, also has an excellent record as an international captain. He has so far captained India in 32 limited overs matches, of which he has won 26. Under Rohit’s captaincy, India has won the Nidhas Trophy and the Asia Cup in 2018 and several bilateral series. Even in the last series, India had eliminated New Zealand under his captaincy.
The appointment of Rohit Sharma as the full-time ODI and T20 captain and the promotion of Ajinkya Rahane to the post of vice-captain in the Test team indicates that the Indian cricket leadership is undergoing a period of change in the group. The Indian selectors wanted to give Rohit time to form a team for the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia and then the ODI World Cup in India in 2023.
