The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan) of the State Government has set a target of providing benefits of government schemes by identifying one crore differently abled people in 21 categories. So far 43 lakh Divyangjans have been registered district wise. This information was given by the Minister of the Department, Anil Rajbhar in a conversation with ‘Hindustan’.
He said that UP would be the first state in the country to provide free motorized tricycles to the differently-abled. For this, the state government has made a budget provision of Rs 35 crore in the initial phase. These motorized tricycles will be made available to people with eighty percent disability in movement. From this budget, about 60 to 70 percent of the total applicants will be provided motorized tricycles to the differently-abled. Then the budget for the next installment will be sought from the state government and this motorized tricycle will also be made available to the remaining disabled people.
For this, a certificate of disability will have to be obtained from the CMO office and then an application will have to be made in the office of the District Disabled Persons Empowerment Officer. He said that earlier, disability was assessed in seven categories, but the central government has defined 21 types of disability. For the identification of persons with disabilities in these 21 categories, a survey is being conducted by their department. The data is being compiled district wise. All the information about Divyangjan is being compiled from the office of the Chief Medical Officer of every district.
According to Rajbhar, motorized tricycles will be distributed to the differently-abled persons with more than eighty percent disability by organizing district-wise camps before the code of conduct for the Vidhan Sabha elections is implemented. Apart from this, common tricycles, crutches, glasses and other accessories etc. will also be distributed to the differently-abled visiting these camps.
