Shahjahanpur. A major accident was averted on the Shahjahanpur-Delhi highway on Monday morning. The Kolaghat bridge at Ramganga collapsed along with the pillar. The car passing over it also came down. However there were no casualties. DM Inder Vikram Singh inspected the bridge along with the officials of the Corporation and Public Works Department. He has also called for a report in this matter from the team already investigating. The officials of Setu Corporation have also given instructions for investigation. Under the alternative arrangement, the estimate of the construction of Pantoon bridge is being sent to the government. Till now it is believed that the pillar got sunk due to change in the status of the land.
The road bridge built about 13 years ago on the Ramganga river to connect Jalalabad to Mirzapur collapsed in the early hours of Monday. In the year 2008, the Kalaghat bridge was built at a cost of Rs 11 crore. Setu Nigam had made this bridge and handed it over to the Public Works Department. Since the last two years, its condition started deteriorating and repair work was also done. Suddenly half of the bridge collapsed. During this, a major loss was averted due to the absence of traffic. There, only one car was slightly damaged.
Approval was given to build the Kolaghat bridge over the Ramganga river in 2002 on the Shahjahanpur-Delhi route for about Rs 11 crore. Traffic on this bridge also started in the year 2008. For about two years, there were potholes at many places on this bridge. Due to which people were facing problems. Many times the local villagers also informed the officials about this but no attention was paid.
Thousands of vehicles pass daily on this route connecting Shahjahanpur via Jalalabad to Kalan and Mirzapur as well as Farrukhabad, Badaun. Pillar number eight of the bridge located between Jalalabad to Mirzapur at around three o’clock in the morning suddenly sank into the ground and was completely engulfed in the ground. Two slabs also came down with him. Nazim, a resident of Mohalla Kundarki, Moradabad, was going from Prayagraj to Moradabad with his injured relative Shakir. When the pillar started collapsing, his car was also on it. His car also came down along with the slab.
However, all five people aboard survived safely. Police reached on information. Traffic has been diverted as the traffic was stopped on both sides of the bridge. Vijendra Maurya, DPM of Setu Nigam inspected the officials of Public Works Department. DM Indra Vikram also reached there and took information.
