Lucknow. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has said that this festive season his government is buying power from outside sources at a price of up to Rs 22 per unit as he does not want to dilute the festive fervor. Yogi Adityanath said that in normal days the same amount of electricity was purchased at the rate of Rs 7 per unit.
Uttar Pradesh is facing power crisis due to shortage of coal.
Addressing party workers at an event launched by the BJP to reach out to the OBC community ahead of the UP assembly elections, the chief minister admitted to the power crisis for the first time.
The Chief Minister said, “We will not allow any district to spoil the Karnan Utsav due to power crisis. The state government will provide electricity to the homes of the poor and the rural areas to sustain the enthusiasm of the people irrespective of caste, community, region or religion. Committed.”
He further said, “This is unlike the previous governments when electricity was supplied to only a few districts while others were left in the dark.”
The Chief Minister’s statement came amid reports that private companies were earning money during the coal crisis after water seeped into the coal mines due to incessant rains.
Yogi Adityanath asked power officials to swiftly coordinate with the Center and Coal India Ltd to mitigate the crisis, which threatens to worsen the situation of the financially ailing UP Power Corporation Ltd (UPPCL). UPPCL is already running into an accumulated loss of Rs 90,000 crore.
Yogi Adityanath also slammed the previous SP government for promoting riots and violence during festivals.
Criticizing the opposition, he said that nepotism is the “biggest obstacle” in the path of development of the society and the country as a whole.
He said that the previous government had followed the principle of ‘Sabka Saath and Apni Parivar Ka Vikas’.
On the contrary, he said, the ruling BJP sought welfare of all sections of the society irrespective of caste, community and religion.
