Lucknow. In the midst of intensifying preparations by political parties for the 2022 assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, the Election Commission has also become ready. The Election Commission has issued instructions regarding the assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh. With this it is possible that the model code of conduct will be implemented in the state anytime after December 20. The tenure of Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh is till 14 May 2022.
The Election Commission has issued instructions for immediate removal of officers and employees posted at any place in Uttar Pradesh for a long time. On the instructions of the commission, now the process of removing the officers and employees who have completed three-four years’ tenure in the same district will start soon. Along with Uttar Pradesh, the Election Commission has also sent instructions to the Government of Goa, Manipur, Punjab and Uttarakhand. The term of Goa government is ending on 15 March 2022, Manipur on 19 March 2022, Punjab on 27 March 2022, Uttarakhand on 23 March 2022 and Uttar Pradesh on 14 May 2022.
With the Election Commission gaining momentum, it seems that the model code of conduct may be implemented in the state anytime after December 20. After this it is possible that the assembly elections in the state will be held from January 20 to February. Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh will be held on schedule in 2022. The Uttar Pradesh State Election Commission has made preparations for the voter brief revision from November 1. Its work will be done from November 1 to 30. Claims and objections will be settled by December 20 after the completion of the special campaign of voter brief revision in the state. After this, the final publication of the voter list will take place on January 5, 2022. It is believed that the dates for the assembly elections will be announced in the first week of January. The commission says that there are rules regarding the posting of officers in the state where elections are held. Officers of such states cannot remain posted in their home district nor can they be posted at one place for more than four years.
Letter sent to Chief Secretary and Chief Electoral Officer
The Election Commission has written to the Chief Secretaries and Chief Electoral Officers of five states including Uttar Pradesh. The commission said in the letter that by December 31, 2021, the work of transfer and posting of officers should be completed. Officers directly connected with the election code of conduct will not be posted in their home districts. The commission says that the officers posted in the home districts will be transferred. If an officer is posted in the same district for the last four years or if his posting is completing three years before December 31, 2021, then his posting will not continue. These rules will be applicable to the officers of the post of DEO / RO / ARO / Police Inspector / Sub-Inspector and above.
