New Delhi. Virat Kohli’s misery is not taking its name to end. Virat Kohli, who has been yearning to score a century in international cricket for two years, announced his relinquishment of the captaincy of the Indian T20 team after the World Cup and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) after this season and will now join the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Monday. In their very first IPL match in the phase, they lost to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by nine wickets. RCB’s team was reduced to 92 runs in 19 overs in Abu Dhabi. After this KKR achieved the target by scoring 94 runs in one wicket in 10 overs.
Big names pile
Despite the presence of great batsmen like Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and Glenn Maxwell, RCB’s team was reduced to 100 runs. RCB had retained skipper Kohli for Rs 17 crore and de Villiers for Rs 11 crore for this season’s auction. Apart from this, he had bought Maxwell for Rs 14.25 crores, but when it comes to his performance in this match, Kohli could score only five runs, while de Villiers got bowled without opening the account on the very first ball. Maxwell did reach the tens but could not go beyond 10 runs. In this way, RCB had to pay a big price for these three in this match.
After winning the toss, Kohli, who came out to open the innings with Padikkal, disappointed in his 200th IPL match and was dismissed lbw in the second over by Krishna. Padikkal played some good shots, but with the end of the powerplay, he too kept going on the delivery of Lucky Ferguson. In the ninth over, Russell gave double blows to RCB by running S Bharat and de Villiers.
After this, Varun first bowled Maxwell on consecutive balls and then Wanindu Hasaranga was dismissed lbw. The score was reduced to 63 for six and after that it did not take long for RCB’s innings to pile up. For KKR, mysterious spinners Varun Chakravarthy and Ande Russell took three wickets each, while Prashant Krishna and Lucky Ferguson combined to spoil the start of RCB with three wickets each.
Chasing the target, KKR got off to a great start by adding 82 runs by Shubman Gill and Venkatesh Iyer. Yuzvendra Singh Chahal broke the partnership by dismissing Gill, but by then it was too late for RCB. When KKR won, they had 10 overs left in their account. This is RCB’s sixth consecutive defeat in the UAE, as RCB have lost their last five matches here.
