Lucknow. Along with Aligarh and Mainpuri in Uttar Pradesh, now there is a preparation to change the name of Sultanpur. The proposal to change the name in the meeting of Aligarh and Mainpuri district panchayat has been passed in the meeting of the district panchayat. The DM of Sultanpur and the commissioner of Ayodhya division have sent a proposal to change the name to the government, on which paperwork is being done in the revenue department.
The Yogi Adityanath government of Uttar Pradesh is preparing to rename Sultanpur district as Kush Bhawanpur after Kush, the eldest son of Lord Shri Ram. The final decision on this will be taken by the state cabinet headed by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. At present, the paperwork for changing the name has started. It is believed that before the 2022 assembly elections, once again the names of the districts are ready to give edge to the religious agenda of the government. The state government is preparing to rename Sultanpur district as Kush Bhawanpur after Kush, the eldest son of Lord Shri Ram. A senior official of the Revenue Council said that the council has sent its recommendation to the government. Now the final decision on this will be taken by the state cabinet headed by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
The people of Sultanpur have been demanding for a long time to change the name of the district to Kush Bhawanpur. BJP MLA from Lambhua (Sultanpur) Devmani Dwivedi raised the issue in the assembly. Meanwhile, the Mandalayukta of Ayodhya along with the DM of Sultanpur had sent a recommendation to the Gazetteer to rename the district as Kush Bhavanpur, citing the ancient history of Sultanpur, to the Government and the Revenue Council. The proposal to change the name of Sultanpur district states that Kush Bhavanpur used to be the capital of Kush, son of Lord Rama in Treta Yuga. The subsequent generations of Maharaj Kush ruled here till Dwapar and attained Veergati while fighting on behalf of the Kaurava army. After this Kush Bhavanpur came to be called Sultanpur.
It is worth mentioning that even before this, there is a demand to change the names of Aligarh, Firozabad, Mainpuri, Ghazipur, Basti and Mirzapur in the state. Out of this, a proposal has been passed to change the name of Firozabad District Panchayat District to Chandranagar, Aligarh District Panchayat Aligarh to Harigarh and Mainpuri District Panchayat District to Mayan Nagari.
