Gorakhpur. Villagers thrashed a spirited inspector posted at Dubulia police station in Basti district. Not only this, the inspector was kept hostage for hours. Inspector Manoj Kumar Tripathi, who arrived on the information, after talking to the villagers, freed the inspector and took him to the police station. At the same time, SP Ashish Srivastava has suspended the inspector with immediate effect.

Villagers told that the Inspector Ashok Chaturvedi, posted at Dubulia police station, often used to come to Unji Mustahkam village. On Wednesday night at around 10.15 pm, he came on his bike to the junior high school located outside the village. Hiding the bike there, he entered a house in the village. Seeing his bike near the school, the villagers informed the police. After this the villagers started waiting to catch the inspector. When he came out of the house around 3.15 in the morning of Thursday, the villagers tried to stop him, but he started running while firing.
The villagers ran to him and caught him near a sugarcane field and tied him to a pole and started beating him. At the same time, as soon as the information of the incident was received, the inspector-in-charge reached the spot along with the police force to free the inspector. The villagers were very angry. After the persuasion of the Inspector-in-Charge, and the respect, the villagers freed the inspector and handed him over to the police.
Transfer in June 2020, canceled in July
Daroga Ashok Chaturvedi came to Dubulia police station in October 2019, after which he was made in-charge of Umaria outpost. He was transferred in June 2020. After the transfer, he went on leave for a month. His transfer was canceled in July 2020, due to which he remained in Dubulia police station.
The SP said
In this regard, Basti’s SP Ashish Srivastava said that on Thursday morning, information was received from Unji village of Dubulia that a police officer of Dubaulia police station has been caught by the villagers. Dubulia police reached the spot and rescued him. Villagers said that the inspector opened fire with his service revolver. The inspector was without uniform on the spot. In view of the prima facie truth of the allegations, he has been suspended. ASP and CO have been sent to the village. There they are talking to the villagers and collecting other information. Further action will be taken on the basis of their inquiry report.
