New Delhi. Delhi Police have arrested four accomplices of two-time Olympic medalist Sushil Kumar in the wrestler Sagar Dhankhar murder case. All those arrested are members of the Kala Asauda and Neeraj Bawana gangs.
A senior police officer said that on secret information, under the supervision of ACP Brahmajit Singh of Operation Cell of Rohini district, Inspector Ishwar Singh and a team of special staff of Rohini, Kala Asoda, four active members of Neeraj Bawana gang were arrested on Tuesday and Wednesday. Arrested from Kanjhawala area on the intervening night.
All the accused were found to be associates of Sushil Kumar in the Dhankhar murder case at Chhatrasal Stadium, the official said.
The arrested accused have been identified as Bhupendra alias Bhupi, Mohit alias Bholi, Gulab alias Pahalwan and Manjit alias Chunil, who hail from Jhajjar and Rohtak, Haryana.
He reveals the complete conspiracy and sequence of events in the murder of Sagar. He said that non-bailable warrants (NBWs) were pending against him.
Giving information about his arrest, the officer said that on the intervening night of May 4 and 5, firing was reported inside the Chhatrasal Stadium at Model Town police station.
The official said police found five cars at the Chhatrasal Stadium, including Maruti Alto, Honda City, Toyota Fortuner, Mahindra Scorpio and Maruti Brezza.
Police also recovered a loaded double barrel gun and three rounds inside the Scorpio car and two sticks in the parking area.
During the spot investigation, it was found that the injured persons were beaten up by Sushil Kumar and his associates. A case was registered under IPC and several sections of the Arms Act.
The investigation of the case was later transferred to the Crime Branch.
Sushil Kumar and his associate Ajay were arrested on Sunday morning and are on police remand of the crime branch.
On Tuesday, it was reported that four members of the Kala Asauda gang and the Neeraj Bawana gang involved in the murder of Dhankhar at Chhatrasal Stadium were coming to Ghevra village to meet their colleague Kala, a resident of Jhajjar, Haryana, the official said.
He said that acting on the information, the police laid a trap near the Ghevra railway crossing and arrested the four accused.
During interrogation he revealed that at midnight on 4 and 5 May, he went to Chhatrasal Stadium. They reached the stadium in two vehicles, a Scorpio car and a Brezza car at around 12 pm. Subsequently actively involved himself in crime.
The police officer also said that the four accused also gave the sequence of events and details of other persons involved in the crime.
He said that upon hearing the siren of the police, they could not run away with their vehicles, leaving both the cars (Scorpio and Brezza) and their weapons there.
On Monday, IANS reported that Mahindra Scorpio was linked to the Neeraj Bawana gang.
Police said that Bhupendra, 38, came in contact with Rajeev alias Kala in 2000 and after committing a robbery he became a close associate of Kala and committed several robberies and murders by 2011.
The officer said Bhupendra went to jail in 2011 in the double murder case and remained in jail till February 2021.
The officer said that in the year 2020, his gang leader Kala was murdered by rival gang members in the court premises in Rohtak and after his release he was reviving his gang for revenge.
In 2011, he was arrested after a brief encounter and 32 illegal firearms (7 pistols and 25 country-made pistols) were recovered from him. The police officer said that while in jail he came in contact with Kala Asauda and then supplied weapons to his gang members.
He was arrested several times along with Kala’s associates in several cases, the official said. Now he joined Bhupendra to strengthen the Kala Asauda gang. He was involved in the first four cases.
