New Delhi. Fast bowler Jaydev Unadkat had a brilliant performance in the 2019-20 Ranji Trophy season with 67 wickets for Saurashtra. Despite proving himself at the domestic level, his pain has spilled over not being selected in the squad for the tours of Australia and England. Unadkat said, ‘I hope that when I am at my peak, when I have done well, I was hoping that I would get a place in the team at some point or the other. Opportunities have diminished due to fewer tournaments, but as a result the board has created a larger pool for each series. In such a situation it has become an opportunity in itself and it has definitely been disappointing not to be selected in this sense. ‘
The 29-year-old cricketer has played 18 international matches for India. He has played one Test, seven ODIs and 10 T20 mats for Team India. At the same time, he has taken 327 wickets in 89 first class matches. In domestic cricket, he was the overall wicket-taker for the 2019-20 season. During this, he gave Saurashtra the Ranji Trophy title. He also took 39 wickets in the 2018-19 season, in which Saurashtra lost to Vidarbha in the final.
Was expected to be selected for India A series in England
Unadkat played the only Test against South Africa in December 2010. He said that he was hoping to be selected for the India A series in England. However, this did not happen. He said, ‘You don’t know what to expect. You do not know which tournament is coming and what to prepare. I was hoping that India would be the A series, which was to take place before the tour of England. I hoped to get a chance in it, but it did not happen. ‘
