The 10th round of talks with the government of agitated farmers’ leaders in protest against the new agricultural law has been postponed on Tuesday and now the next date of talks has been fixed on 20 January. According to the information received from the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, the meeting of the Group of Ministers on behalf of the government with the farmers’ organizations will now be held at Vigyan Bhawan on 20 January 2021 at 2 pm instead of 19 January 2021.
To repeal the Farmers Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act 2020, Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Price Assurance and Agricultural Services Agreement Act 2020 and Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act 2020 and purchase crops at minimum support price (MSP) Farmers have been sticking to Delhi’s borders since 26 November last year to demand legal guarantee. Nine rounds of farmer unions are being negotiated with the government to resolve the farmers’ objections to the new agricultural laws and the next round of talks is expected to resolve the issue.
Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Narendra Singh told reporters in Gwalior in Tomar Madhya Pradesh on Monday, “Every time the farmers unions have been asked to discuss the provision, to consider the provision which the farmer is suffering. For and to amend it, the government is discussing with open mind and wants to do it, but the provision is not being discussed on behalf of the union, so the deadlock continues. ”
He expressed the hope that if the farmers unions discuss options in the next round of meeting, a way out will be found.
