Lucknow. Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati has suffered a major setback. Yogesh Verma, considered the elder of the BSP in western UP, along with his wife Sunita Verma, the mayor of Meerut, has taken membership of the Samajwadi Party. Several other leaders joined the Samajwadi Party with him. Former BSP MLA Vijaypal from Bareilly and Sunita Verma, Mayor of Meerut, along with Yogesh Verma, who was a minister in the BSP government, joined the Samajwadi Party in the presence of SP chief Akhilesh Yadav in the state office on Saturday.
Yogesh Verma also contested Lok Sabha elections from BSP from Meerut. Yogash Verma is considered a leader of the Dalit community in western Uttar Pradesh. Along with this, former minister Awadhesh Verma and former MLA Vijay Yadav have also returned to the SP. Sunita Verma and Yogesh Verma along with about 400 supporters took membership of Samajwadi Party. There are also seven councilors of Meerut.
Meanwhile, Akhilesh Yadav said that a large number of people are joining the Samajwadi Party. Today’s number is historical. We welcome former MLA Meerut Yogesh Verma. I also welcome former BJP MLA Ram Bharti along with former MLA Vijay Pal Singh, former minister Awadhesh Verma, former MLA Vijay Yadav, former MP Lakhimpur Dawood Ahmed.
