Kathmandu Before signing a major Kovid vaccine agreement with India, on Friday, Nepal’s Department of Drug Administration (DDA) has allowed emergency use of the India-made Coronavirus vaccine covishield in the country. Foreign Minister of Nepal Pradeep Gyawali is currently in New Delhi to attend the sixth meeting of the Nepal-India Joint Commission. Both sides may sign on to support the Kovid vaccine manufactured in India.
The vaccine, developed by the University of Oxford and Astra-Zeneca and developed by the Serum Institute of India, has been given conditional permission for emergency use, the department said.
The DDA called for the registration of vaccines for emergency use two days ago.
This is the first time that a Kovid-19 vaccine has been approved for use in Nepal. Other manufacturing countries such as China and Russia were also interested in providing the vaccine to Nepal, but due to climatic conditions, pricing, logistics convenience, and ease of import, Nepal preferred the Indian Kovid vaccine.
India has already given permission for the use of Kovishield along with Kovishield as well as Bharat Biotech.
