New York | Newly elected President Joe Biden named energy and climate change expert Sonia Agarwal as his senior advisor for climate policy and innovation. Sonia Biden is one of several prominent Indian-American faces involved in the administration.
According to Biden’s Transition Team, during the days when Biden was the Vice President, Sonia Aggarwal had united 200 power policy experts for energy innovation and led the US electricity plan.
He also directed the team developing an energy policy simulator to analyze the environmental, economic and public health impacts of climate and energy policies.
Ohio-born Sonia Agarwal has done a Masters course in Civil Engineering at Stanford University.
Kamala Harris, one of the Indian Americans nominated for important positions in the Biden administration, will be sworn in as vice-president next Wednesday. Neera Tandon will be the director of the Office of Management and Budget with cabinet rank. Vivek Murthy will be Surgeon General, Vedanta Patel Assistant Press Secretary, Vinay Reddy Speech Writing Director and Gautam Raghavan will be Deputy Director of Personnel Office of the President.
Among others: Atul Gawande and Celine Gounder, members of the Kovid-19 task force, Bharat Ramamurthy deputy director of the National Economic Council, Sabrina Singh, deputy press secretary for Kamala Harris, Mala Adiga to be the policy director for Jill Biden to become the first woman .
The swearing-in ceremony was made by the executive director of the organizing committee, Maju Varghese.
The powerful National Security Council nominees are Tarun Chhabra, Senior Director for Technology and National Security; Sumona Guha, Senior Director for South Asia and Shanti Kalathil, Coordinator for Democracy and Human Rights.
