new Delhi. The Center said on Thursday that five more cases of new variants of Kovid-19, which were reported in Britain, have been detected in the country, with the total number of cases being 25. Four of these five new cases have been found at the National Institute of Virology in Pune and one at the CSIR Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology, Delhi.
“All 25 individuals are in isolation in health facilities,” the Health Ministry said in a statement.
Of the 20 other cases, eight have been registered at the National Center for Disease Control in Delhi, 7 at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro-Sciences in Bangalore and two at Hyderabad Cellular and Molecular Biology.
Apart from this, one case each has been registered at National Institute of Biomedical Genomics near Kolkata, National Institute of Virology in Pune and CSIR Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology.
The central government announced that new variant genome infections were found in six UK return people on Tuesday and all of these people have been placed in isolation in healthcare facilities.
The British government recently announced that new mutants of the Kovid-19 virus found in the country are up to 70 percent more infectious.
Cases of new UK variants have already been reported in Denmark, Netherlands, Australia, Italy, Sweden, France, Spain, Switzerland, Germany, Canada, Japan, Lebanon and Singapore.
After the announcement by the British Government, the Government of India took cognizance of the reports of the new variants and devised a strategy for its detection and redress.
In view of this, temporary suspension of all flights arriving from the UK from midnight of 23 December to 31 December was included. It was later extended to 7 January.
Around 33,000 passengers arrived at various Indian airports from the UK from 25 November to 23 December midnight. All these passengers had to undergo RT-PCR test in the states and union territories and are being monitored.
