new Delhi . Prime Minister Narendra Modi is attending the centenary celebrations of the foundation day of Aligarh Muslim University as the chief guest. This is the first time in 55 years of Aligarh Muslim University, when a Prime Minister will participate in the university’s program. The centenary celebrations on December 22 due to Corona infection will be held in a virtual manner. Before Prime Minister Narendra Modi, 55 years ago in 1964, Lal Bahadur Shastri joined the Aligarh Muslim University program as Prime Minister. This centenary ceremony will be held on 22 December. Muhammad Anglo-Oriental College was established by Sir Syed Ahmed in 1875. On December 1, 1920, it was transformed into Aligarh Muslim University. The university was inaugurated on 17 December 1920.
Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ will also attend the centenary year celebrations of Aligarh Muslim University. Apart from this, many academics including university students, teachers, professors and staff have also been invited to attend the centenary celebrations.
Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University Professor Tariq Mansoor has said that the presence of the Prime Minister will convey an important message to the AMU community spread across the country and the world. Various prominent personalities including the Minister of Minority Affairs have also been invited to attend the function. There has been an appeal from the university community, staff, members, students and alumni for active participation in upcoming events.
The university administration and the vice-chancellor have also appealed to keep the AMU centenary program above politics. Vice Chancellor Tariq Mansoor has appealed to all staff members, students, alumni and well-wishers to actively participate in the program. He also said that centenary year programs should be above politics, just like Republic Day, Independence Day, Milad-un-Nabi, Gandhi Jayanti are above politics.
