Mumbai’s special CBI court on Friday gave its verdict in actress Jiah Khan’s suicide case. The court acquitted actor Suraj Pancholi due to lack of evidence.
Suraj Pancholi was accused of abetting Jiah’s suicide. Jiah Khan committed suicide at her Juhu home. It was claimed that before the suicide, Jia Khan had accused Sooraj of physical abuse, mental and physical harassment in the suicide note.
Special CBI court judge AS Syed had last week reserved its judgment in the case for April 28 after hearing arguments from both the sides. Jiah’s mother Rabia Khan told the court that it was not a case of suicide but of murder.
Earlier, the Bombay High Court had rejected his plea seeking a fresh probe into the matter. During the testimony, Rabia Khan had told the CBI court that Pancholi used to physically and verbally abuse Jiah Khan.
Pancholi, in his statement filed before the court, had claimed that the charge sheets were false. The actor, in his 313-page statement filed before the court, had claimed that the investigation and the charge sheet were false. Prosecution witnesses testified against the complainant Rabia Khan at the behest of the police and the CBI.
Jiah Khan is best known for her performance in the film Nishabd starring Amitabh Bachchan.
