Kathmandu Indian Foreign Secretary Harshvardhan Shringla and Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli met and agreed to intensify efforts to further mutual cooperation. Shringla, along with his Nepali counterpart, also had ‘meaningful talks’ on various bilateral issues. He was warmly welcomed on Shringla’s first visit to Nepal amidst tension between the two countries over the border line dispute. He has come at the invitation of Nepal Foreign Secretary Bharat Raj Paudayal. Rajan Bhattarai, the Prime Minister’s foreign affairs adviser, said that Shringla had a courtesy call on Prime Minister Oli at his official residence and during this time he had discussed many issues including the border problem. He said that India’s Foreign Secretary has brought a positive message of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to strengthen relations between Nepal and India.
He said that Oli told Shringla, “Nepal and India relations are multifaceted, although there are some problems as well”. Is in favor of doing. “There are some unsolved problems of the past and I am confident that we can resolve them through negotiations by strengthening relations,” he said. Sources said that Oli and Shringla reviewed the status of bilateral relations and gave India and Nepal And discussed the possibilities of getting closer. He said that steps could be taken to finalize the important projects as soon as possible, including the Pancheshwar Multipurpose Project and the introduction of new economic initiatives. Sources said Oli thanked India for its support during the Kovid-19 epidemic.
He said that after this Shringla had a courtesy meeting with President of Nepal Vidya Devi Bhandari at Rashtrapati Bhavan and informed them about the status of bilateral relations. Shringla also met Nepal’s Foreign Minister Pradeep Kumar Gyawali and handed over to him more than 2,000 vials of the anti-virus drug Remedicivir under India’s assistance to help prevent the Kovid-19 epidemic. Shringla told local reporters, “I wanted to come here earlier too but could not come due to Kovid-19. I am very happy to be here. I have been to Kathmandu before, though this is my first visit to Nepal as Foreign Secretary. Our relations are very strong. Our effort will be to deepen this relationship. ” He said, “I would like to thank the Government of Nepal and the Foreign Secretary for this warm welcome. We are going to meet on important issues. ”
The Nepalese Foreign Ministry issued a statement this week, saying that the visit is part of the ongoing high-level dialogue between the two neighboring countries. On Friday, Shringla will deliver a lecture on Indo-Nepal relations in Kathmandu and inspect three schools built with Indian assistance in Gorkha. Before the conclusion of the visit on Friday, Shringla will hand over support material to the Government of Nepal for the match against Kovid-19. Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave an assurance to build 50,000 houses in Gorkha district, the epicenter of the 2015 earthquake, out of which 40,000 houses have been completed. Shringla will also inaugurate a Buddhist monastery in Manang district on the Tibet border which has been reconstructed with the help of India.
