The 2016 winners Sunrisers Hyderabad have made it to the second qualifier of the 13th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) where they will face Delhi Capitals. The team that wins this qualifier will play against defending champions Mumbai Indians in the final. Hyderabad beat Bangalore by six wickets in the eliminator match at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium to advance to the second qualifier and extend the wait for Bangalore to win the first title for another season.
Bangalore batted first but could not score big. He scored 131 runs losing seven wickets in 20 overs. Abraham De Villiers (56 runs, 43 balls, 5 fours) contributed to this half-century innings. Hyderabad achieved the loss of four wickets in 19.4 overs thanks to an unbeaten 24-run innings played by Kane Williamson (50 not out, 44 balls, 2 fours, 2 sixes) and Jason Holder.
The goal was not too big in front of Hyderabad. Started well if needed. Srivatsa Goswami, playing in this match in place of Wriddhiman Saha, came to start the innings. Mohammad Siraj did not let him open the account.
Siraj also dismissed David Warner (17). Leg-spinner Adam Jampa, who returned in this match, gave Bangalore a third success by sending another big fork Manish Pandey (24) to Bangalore. De Villiers also caught Manish’s catch.
Young batsman Priyam Garg (7) had a chance to get the team trapped in a difficult position to pull off a brilliant innings game. Yuzvendra Chahal came in the midst of his attempt. Chahal catches Priyam in the hands of Zampa.
Hyderabad’s score was 68/4 after 12 overs. From here, Holder and Williamson shared a 65-run partnership to win the team.
The Bangalore batsmen gave a disappointing performance in this match. Barring de Villiers and to a lesser extent Aaron Finch, no other batsman could set foot in front of the Hyderabad bowlers.
Captain Virat Kohli came into this match with Devdutt Padikal to start the innings. Both these batsmen were dismissed cheaply by Jason Holder. First Kohli (6) was out and then Peddikal (1) went for runs.
Finch scored 32 runs and shared a 41-run partnership with de Villiers, which was the biggest partnership of Bangalore’s innings. Finch was dismissed by Shahbaz Nadeem. Bangalore lost a few wickets continuously from here. Moin Ali (0) Shivam Dubey (8) Washington Sundar (5) was dismissed quickly.
De Villiers had hopes of Bangalore that he would reach the team beyond 150 but he was bowled by T. Natarajan’s ball. This was the reason that Bangalore could not even score respectably.
