Following raids in West Bengal and Kerala, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday arrested nine militants belonging to the terrorist group al-Qaeda, who were planning attacks on several major installations in Delhi-NCR. An NIA spokesperson gave this information. An NIA spokesperson said that the Anti-Terrorism Investigation Agency conducted simultaneous raids at various locations in India at Ernakulam in Kerala and Murshidabad in West Bengal after finding out about an inter-state module of the Al Qaeda operatives.
The spokesman said, the group was planning to carry out terrorist attacks on important establishments in India, with the aim of killing innocent people. He said NIA 11 registered a case on September. The official said that the NIA has arrested six terrorists from West Bengal and three from Kerala in the morning raids. During the raid, a large amount of criminal paraphernalia including digital devices, documents, jihadi literature, sharp weapons, indigenous firearms, locally produced body armor, articles and literature to help make explosives have been seized from them. The official said, according to preliminary investigation, these individuals were radicalized on social media by Pakistan’s Al Qaeda militants and incited to carry out attacks in several places including the National Capital Region.
The official said the module was actively involved in raising funds and some gang members were planning to go to New Delhi to buy arms and ammunition. The arrested militants have been identified as Murshid Hasan, Iyakub Biswas and Moserf Hussain. All three are residents of Ernakulam. Najmus Saqib, Abu Sufiyan, Manul Mondal, Leu Yin Ahmed, Al Mamun Kamal and Pastur Rahman are all from Murshidabad. The officer said that he would be produced before the respective courts in Kerala and West Bengal for police custody and further investigation.
