Washington US President Donald Trump visited the city on August 23 in Kenosha amid violent protests following the death of a black man with a police bullet. Trump has blamed the ‘anti-American riots’ for this destruction. He visited the city on Tuesday despite calls by state and local leaders to stay away from Trump. The leaders warned that their visit would increase tensions in the city. The President also visited the damaged areas in the protests.
Later speaking to reporters, he said, “Kenosha has been devastated by anti-police and anti-American riots.”
“You passed through hell a few days ago, but I feel safe. We are safe because of the law,” the news agency quoted the president as saying.
He said his administration would give $ 1 million to law enforcement in Kenosha, $ 4 million to help local small businesses, and $ 40.2 million to support public safety efforts.
Reportedly, Trump did not meet the family of 29-year-old victim Jacob Blake, as Jacob requested to involve his lawyers, which the president called ‘inappropriate’.
Blake, the father of three children, was shot seven times in the back on August 23 by a powerful police officer. He was paralyzed and is now hospitalized in a city hospital.
Two protesters were shot dead two days later by a 17-year-old white boy.
In a News interview on Monday, Trump criticized the Kenosha officer, saying, “So many bullets hit someone from behind – I mean, couldn’t you have done anything different?”
Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden said Monday that the president himself is an important cause of unrest and racial conflict.
In a statement, Biden said, “Rioters are not protesting. Looting, arson is not protesting. It is lawless and action should be taken against those who do so. Violence will not change. It Only destruction will bring. It is wrong in every way. ”
Earlier on May 25, a black George Floyd was murdered by a white police officer, prompting nationwide demonstrations against police brutality and racism.
In 2016, Trump won in Wisconsin with barely 23,000 votes. In a Morning Consulting poll released on Tuesday, Biden had a 9-point lead over Trump in Wisconsin.
