new Delhi . After the announcement of the guidelines for unlock by the central government, now Indian Railways is also preparing to increase the number of passenger trains. Indian Railways said that it is planning to run more special trains and state governments are being consulted in this regard. A senior railway ministry official said, “Indian Railways is consulting with the state governments.”
According to sources in the Railway Ministry, Railways can run 100 more new passenger trains in the coming days in addition to the trains currently running.
Indian Railways suspended passenger, mail and express train services from 25 March in view of the nationwide bandh imposed due to the Kovid-19 epidemic.
Railways started operating Shramik Special trains from May 1 to transport stranded migrant workers, students, pilgrims and tourists. Railways also started 15 pairs of special air conditioned trains from May 12 and 100 pairs of trains started operating from June 1.
Last week, the Center has also given permission to start metro services from September 7. The government has said in its new guidelines that states are no longer allowed to impose bandhs outside the containment zone without the permission of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
