Gautam Buddha Nagar | Private schools in Noida are tearing down the Right to Education Act (RTE). A notice has been issued to about two dozen private schools in Noida and Greater Noida for allegedly not complying with the Act and refusing to admit economically weaker students. When the matter came before the District Magistrate Suhas LY, he ordered the Basic Education Officer to investigate. After this, a 6-member team was formed on Monday, which is going to schools and checking.
In Gautam Budhnagar district, school allocation was made through online lottery to 316 children against a total of 4761 applications in the first phase, 1617 against a total of 1500 applications in the second phase and a total of 858 applications in the third phase.
In the first two phases, a total of 6261 children applied for benefits under the RTE Act, which provides free and compulsory education to every child in the age group of 6-14. Of these, 3717 children were allotted school, according to which about 952 children have been admitted by the school concerned. Complaints were received from some schools regarding non-admission of RTE quota.
While complaining about not enforcing the law, Basic Education Officer (BSA) Dhirendra Kumar said that necessary action will be taken against the concerned school as per rules for refusing to admit beneficiary children under RTE quota. A team of the Education Department also visited and inspected two private schools on Monday.
The district education department has also issued notices to 58 private schools earlier for not implementing RTE. On Monday, for the second time, notice has been issued to 22 schools.
