Soon after Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot made an amended proposal to the Governor to convene a special session of the Assembly on Sunday, 31 July, the Congress accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of fighting for the party instead of fighting Coronavirus and asked if he Can the constitutional tradition be crushed for power? Congress leader Ajay Maken told the media here that it is a matter of great concern that the Constitution and the established constitutional tradition are being mercilessly crushed by the BJP.
During the press conference here, he said, “It seems that what was expected from the judiciary will also not survive. People sitting in constitutional posts like governors are seen to be helpless and unable to save the constitution.”
He said, “Will the country accept the BJP’s attack on democracy? The majority mandate will be decided by the 8 crore people of Rajasthan or will the leaders sitting in Delhi use muscle power and money? Will the Prime Minister and the Government of India Can the constitutional tradition be crushed to gain power? Can the governor defy the constitution by rejecting the request of Rajasthan elected by a majority to call a special session of the assembly? Can a governor unconstitutionally interfere by going to the legislature’s constituency Wouldn’t it be like having the legislature and judiciary face to face? ”
Former Union Minister Maken also said that the entire country is raising its voice in support of Congress’s Save Democracy campaign.
He said, “We call upon the people of the country to contribute to this yagna to save democracy. This will be more than expressing patriotism at heart.”
