Lucknow . The entire Uttar Pradesh will remain closed on weekends but the Yogi Adityanath government has allowed liquor shops to remain open during this period. Liquor shops can be open from 10 am to 9 pm. But the government has specified that no alcohol is allowed in public places on any day of the week.
According to an order issued on Thursday night, the government has allowed retail shops of beer, model shops, foreign and native liquor and cannabis to remain open on weekends.
However, this order will not apply to shops that are located within the containment zone.
UP has started imposing restrictions on weekends from July 10, given the increasing number of corona cases in the state.
During this period people do not leave, so all shops, malls, grain wholesale markets and restaurants will remain closed.
Additional Chief Secretary (Excise) Sanjay Bhusreddy said, “If a District Magistrate wants to change the time of operation of these shops, he can do so only after obtaining permission from the Excise Commissioner.”
This was said in view of the fact that some District Magistrates were taking unilateral decisions regarding the closure of liquor shops.
The Liquor Seller Welfare Association has welcomed the decision, saying that they suffered a major loss during the bandh over the weekend.
Association general secretary Kanhaiya Lal Maurya said that he had written a letter to the Commissioner of Excise on 15 July and made him aware of his problems.
