new Delhi. Former Railway Minister and senior Congress leader Pawan Kumar Bansal has been questioned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the railway bribery case, in which his nephew is also an accused.
The ED had initiated an inquiry against the Railway Board member (staff) Mahesh Kumar, Vijay Singla, Sandeep Goyal and seven other accused under the provisions of PMLA based on the FIR and charge sheet filed by the CBI.
“The agency questioned Bansal for 8 hours on Wednesday at his Chandigarh office,” a top ED source told
The source also said that the agency will once again question him in the coming days.
Explain that in May last year, the Enforcement Directorate had attached the amount of Rs 89 lakh which the CBI seized in 2013 from the office of Bansal’s nephew Vinay Singla. It was the corruption money of appointments to the top posts of the railway. At that time, the Congress leader was the Union Railway Minister in the UPA-2 regime and Bansal had to step down after the controversy.
Based on the CBI’s FIR, a case of money laundering was registered against all these accused.
The ED was quoted as saying by the CBI investigation, “Singla had sought Rs 10 crore from Sandeep Goyal to appoint N Maanjunath as a member (electrical) to Mahesh Kumar.
