new Delhi. The Supreme Court on Thursday asked the Center to file a counter affidavit (counter-affidavit) on a contempt petition filed by an NGO against the central government and the Jammu and Kashmir administration. A contempt petition was filed in the union territory for not constituting a special committee to review restrictions on 4G speed internet. A three-judge bench headed by Justice NV Raman asked the Center to take a decision regarding the decision taken by a high-powered committee headed by the Union Home Secretary to review the orders banning 4G Internet services in the region. File an affidavit.
However, the apex court did not issue any formal notice on the contempt petition.
Attorney General K.K. Venugopal said before the court that no contempt has been committed as the special committee has already been formed. Justice Raman, however, questioned why there was nothing again in the public domain.
The apex court asked the Center to state everything in a counter-affidavit and file it within a week.
When the Attorney General informed the apex court that there has been an increase in incidents of terrorist activity in the region, the lawyer representing the petitioner (Foundation for Media Professionals) cited the interview of the Union Home Minister, in which Amit Shah said That terrorism is the lowest in Jammu and Kashmir since repeal of Section 370 and since 1990.
The lawyer also cited an article by BJP leader Ram Madhav, who is one of the spokespersons for Jammu and Kashmir, stating that the time has come to remove several restrictions.
