new Delhi. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has attached movable and immovable properties worth Rs 1.40 crore to former Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) chairman Rakesh Kumar Paul in the corruption case.
The attached properties include seven immovable properties, including two flats on the Saktigadh Path in Guwahati, a commercial property in Bhangarh and cash worth Rs 10 lakh attached to Paul’s residence.
The Assam Police had registered a case against Paul on charges of irregularities related to recruitment of candidates to government services in Assam through examinations conducted by the APSC. The ED is investigating the case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) based on an FIR lodged under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The ED said that an investigation conducted by the state police found that Paul along with other accused persons hatched a criminal conspiracy and manipulated the candidates’ selection system by the APSC. Investigation has revealed that Paul used black money to buy various movable and immovable properties in his name and in various places in Assam in the name of his family members. The investigation also revealed that Paul had purchased the property at much lower prices than the market price.
